A pocket of blooming flowers in a secret garden, Mr. Naeem Khan’s Spring|Summer 2014 collection had much to reveal about the power of love. And there’s much to be said about that, whether client or creator, for a person without passion is a person without a soul. Undeniably, it’s captivating. With that, Mr. Khan showed his admiration for his career and craftsmanship with a collection that paid homage to Spanish tradition; a collection that embodies romance, vibrancy, and elegance.
Revolving around the Spanish Rose, a symbol of love and beauty, the pieces were a voyage from Madrid to Buenos Aires just how the show notes stated. Tango gowns danced in ruffles, handpainted abstract stripes entranced. Other elements that were hard to miss were the rich embroidery and sultry colors. Inconspicuously seductive. It was art in transit, emotion in translation. Shakespeare once wrote: “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet,” but not in this case. Visually, the Naeem Khan signatures were present- embellishments, caftans, and heritage prints- erasing any doubt from the discerning eye.
Every season Mr. Khan continues to deliver, proving that he’s holding on tightly to the reigns of his brand as well as the industry. He’s doing what a true designer does: carving out the DNA of his fashion house. | Giuseppe
